Mirth Magazine has learned from an inside source – who got it from Brill himself – that Eddie Brill has been removed from his position as the booker for comedians for The Late Show for David Letterman. According to the source, Brill, who booked the show’s comedians for the past 11 years, was removed for speaking to the press without authorization, after this article appeared in the New York Times on Thursday. (Mirth followed up with this essay on Friday, and both Brill and the original article’s author, Jason Zinoman, exchanged views on the piece in the comments.) Brill will supposedly continue in his role as the audience warm-up comedian, which, according to the source, was the only aspect of his job he was paid for. No word yet on who his replacement will be, although Brill told the source that it will be “a small group of 25-year-olds.” Mirth has left word with a CBS rep, and will update if we hear back.
