BREAKING: Eddie Brill out as Letterman booker

Mirth Magazine has learned from an inside source – who got it from Brill himself – that Eddie Brill has been removed from his position as the booker for comedians for The Late Show for David Letterman. According to the source, Brill, who booked the show’s comedians for the past 11 years, was removed for speaking to the press without authorization, after this article appeared in the New York Times on Thursday. (Mirth followed up with this essay on Friday, and both Brill and the original article’s author, Jason Zinoman, exchanged views on the piece in the comments.) Brill will supposedly continue in his role as the audience warm-up comedian, which, according to the source, was the only aspect of his job he was paid for. No word yet on who his replacement will be, although Brill told the source that it will be “a small group of 25-year-olds.” Mirth has left word with a CBS rep, and will update if we hear back.

  2. To fight misogyny and inequality in the comedy business, please call the Sioux Falls Orpheum Theater at 605-367-4616 and request that they cancel the Eddie Brill show scheduled for January 21st.
You can also e-mail the executive management of the theater at terry@sfarena.com, and the press office at micki@sfarena.com.

    • He has a right to earn a living and trying to destroy his career is above and beyond a reasonable response. He’s been removed from his position of authority at Letterman. No need to fire bomb the guy.

  7. Brill stinks as a warmup guy. I can’t stand the way he leers at women in the audience. But that’s probably why Letterman loves him. Has the show added any female writers yet?

  10. Eddie Brill is not the problem, he’s a peek at a symptom of the problem. It stems way deeper than his quote that realistically, probably was taken out of context by the NY Times. The fact is, men see women anywhere – on stage, at the store, even on the toilet – and they want to fuck them, not necessarily laugh at them, and that is a predisposition that is ingrained into our genetics. Add society’s shortcomings and men’s vicious insecurities, and Houston, we have a major problem. If you think it’s going to “go away”, best of luck with that. Just keep fighting the good fight, ladies. Even though I want to fuck many of you, I support your plight and will try my best to be a decent human and a supportive audience member.
